The Colombian Amazon Journal wants its investigations read as widely as possible. You are welcome to republish our written reporting, online or in print, at no cost, under the terms below. We publish our text under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 (CC BY-ND) license.
If you are an outlet, newsletter, classroom, or organization that wants to carry our work, you already have our permission, as long as you follow these rules.
What you must do
- Credit us clearly, with a working link to the original article. Use this line at the top or bottom of the piece: "This article was originally published by the Colombian Amazon Journal. Read the original: [article URL]."
- Keep the byline as published. Our investigations are bylined to the Investigations Desk, or Editorial for essays, not to an individual. Do not attribute the work to a named person, and do not add one. This is a safety and editorial-standards requirement.
- Do not change the meaning. You may fix an obvious typo or adjust formatting and the headline to fit your house style, but you may not edit the text in a way that alters its substance, and you may not add or remove reporting, sources, or context.
- Keep our links. Leave the inline source links intact. Our work rests on the promise that every claim is traceable to its source; stripping the links breaks that.
- Add a canonical tag pointing to our original URL, so search engines credit the source and neither of us is penalized for duplicate content.
What you may not do
- Sell, sublicense, or place our reporting behind a paywall that did not exist on the original terms of access.
- Edit the piece to distort its meaning, or use excerpts in a way that misrepresents it.
- Imply that the Colombian Amazon Journal endorses your publication, product, or position.
- Republish our images, graphics, or data visuals unless they are explicitly marked as available (see below).
Images, graphics, and data
Text is CC BY-ND. Images are not automatically included.
- Satellite figures and maps we build carry their own credit line (for example "EOX Sentinel-2 cloudless, modified Copernicus Sentinel data, CC BY 4.0"). You may reuse those with that credit intact.
- Field photographs and third-party images are licensed separately and are not covered by this policy. Do not republish them without written permission. If you want a specific image, ask.
- Datasets we compile can be shared on request with attribution.
How to republish
- Copy the article text and keep the source links.
- Add the credit line and the canonical tag.
- Keep the Investigations Desk or Editorial byline.
- Drop the images unless they are marked reusable.
- Tell us where it ran, so we can point our readers to you.
