About This Directory

The Amazon is not one country, one forest story, or one political issue. It is a vast living system of peoples, rivers, territories, cultures, biodiversity, and pressures spanning nine countries and territories. Amazon News Watch is a living directory of trusted sources monitoring what is happening across all of them.

Sources include environmental journalists, investigative reporters, Indigenous organizations, civil-society groups, scientific research institutes, official monitoring bodies, and community media. Coverage spans Indigenous rights, deforestation, illegal mining, biodiversity, protected areas, rivers, climate change, fires, land conflicts, cultural heritage, and community-led forest protection.

Not affiliated with Amazon Watch: The NGO Amazon Watch (amazonwatch.org) is listed here as a relevant source. This directory is a separate, independent resource published by ColombianAmazon.com and is not affiliated with that organization unless explicitly stated.

How to Use This Directory

Sources are organized by country or region and then by type. Use the navigation below to jump to a country section. Within each section, source cards show the type, language, and focus areas.

  • ColombianAmazon.com does not endorse every article, position, or campaign from every source listed.
  • We include sources because they are relevant to Amazon monitoring, Indigenous rights, environmental defense, journalism, research, or policy.
  • Some sources publish in Spanish, Portuguese, English, Dutch, or French. Use translation tools as needed and verify sensitive information directly with original sources.
  • We do not copy or republish articles. All links go to original sources in a new tab.
  • To suggest an addition or correction, contact us here.

Indigenous Organizations & Community Voices

These organizations speak from, with, or in support of Indigenous territories and communities. Their inclusion reflects the importance of primary voices, territorial knowledge, and Indigenous-led defense of the Amazon. Indigenous organizations are not simply 'sources' — they are the political, cultural, and territorial representatives of peoples who have been the Amazon's primary stewards for millennia.
